Combining culture, pleasure and fundraising in an exceptionally pleasant venue, all in the course of a single evening, does not come that easy. Yet the Hendon Conservative Association managed it on Sunday 22nd July; they even managed lovely weather for sitting out in the grounds.
The event? Our 'Evening at the Opera', chez Madame Valerie Albert, at her hospitable home in Marsh Lane, where we lucky ones listened to themes from famous operas sung by the tenor Yuri Sabatini, accompanied by Nedyalka Dzhelepov on the pianoforte, both professional artists.
The occasion was attended by the Rt Hon Theresa Villiers MP, Marina Yannakoudakis MEP, the Leader of the Council Richard Cornelius and Cllr Alison Cornelius, as well as Hendon Cllrs Mark Shooter, Joan Scannell, Sury Khatri, Tom Davey and John Hart, with a goodly attendance of friends, supporters and members too long to list.
Food and desserts were prepared by Valerie Duschinsky and her team, with seconds for the greedy and praise from everyone.
There was also a raffle that was drawn by Theresa and Marina (picture right).
Next event, please note: Annual Barbecue at the home of Julia and Matt Dreisin, Langley Park, NW7, on Saturday 15th September. Price - £15 per person (includes a free glass of wine).
