Dot Benson died on Saturday 28th July 2012, aged 88, in a nursing home in Harpenden.
Dot lived most of her married life in Mill Hill. She was a councillor for the London Borough of Barnet for many years and Mayor from 1989-1990.
She was also a loyal and keen supporter of Sir John Gorst, the late Conservative MP for Hendon North.
Dot was also President of the Association and a friend of Margaret Thatcher. Her great interest was in education and she was a firm supporter of grammer schools. To her credit she arranged the merger of Orange Hill Grammer School with Moat Mount School forming the very successful Mill Hill County High, of which she was 'President-for-life' and a keen supporter and advisor.
During the war Dot served as a naval officer in the WRENS.
Our condolences and sympathy go to her loyal and loving husband Ron, a war-time pilot who towed gliders for the Normandy invasion.
He recently moved into the same nursing home as Dot. She leaves two sons and several grandchildren.
The funeral will take place in Garston Crematorium, Watford on Tuesday 7th August at 10:40am.
