Another year another broken promise by Barnet’s Labour council. In the run-up to the local elections of 2022, Barnet Labour made two promises concerning council tax. Firstly, they would rebate 1% of council tax back to Barnet residents. A promise they broke in their first budget last year, a reduction is not a rebate.
Another promise they made was to keep council tax below the legal maximum of 5%. At full council on the 27th of Feb 2024 to keep this promise they raised council tax by 4.8%, 0.02% lower than the legal maximum.
Cllr Dan Thomas, Leader of the Opposition, said: “Labour councillors are treating local taxpayers as cash cows, to pay for their mistakes. Their record on council tax is one of broken promises and sky-high charges.”
