Matthew Offord MP met with Cllrs Mark Shooter and Anthony Finn, of Hendon Ward, at Mr Bakers on Brent Street on a beautifully warm morning of July 25th 2012. Many Ward issues were discussed, including the Ward conservation areas, how to improve Brent Street and Hendon Central, how we can help some homeless people that are currently sleeping rough in the Ward, and Hendon Park play area improvements.
It was agreed by all that bright orange hoardings above Sentinal Square would need replacing soon, and some street furniture would be nice.
Many shops in Brent street were then visited, to get the traders view on the local parking situation. The consensus seemed to be that it was not possible to return to cash parking now, but the voucher scheme would hopefully take off in the area as an alternative. We chatted at length to the owners of the picture frame shop, the Sol estate agency, and the head of the Shomrim (Communal Safety Patrols), at their headquarters on Brent Street.
They then attended the Torch Ceremony at the Burroughs, which was held by the 101 year old Mrs Gould, followed by lunch at Middlesex University, which was also attended by Boris Johnson.
It was an extremely constructive and enjoyable walk and will be repeated in a few months. A possible fundraiser was also discussed and will be announced shortly.
